Interfaith Housing and Claretian Associates have partnered to develop five new six-flat buildings in response to the severe need of South Chicago community. Casa Kirk will provide 29 apartments, primarily three and four bedroom units, to address the severe shortage of affordable housing available to families.

Construction began the end of September 2004. The funding sources for this project are: a $5 million dollar loan from the Chicago Department of Housing using HUD’s Community Development Block Grant program; $1.25 million loan from the Illinois Housing Development Authority’s Housing Trust Fund; a $500,000 grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago under their Affordable Housing Program; a $50,000 grant from HUD’s Supportive Housing Program, and a $50,000 grant from Allstate Insurance. All 5 six-flats will be completed and placed in service by August 2005. After more than six long years developing this project, IHDCC and Claretian are excited that 29 large families (over 100 individuals) will have a beautiful affordable apartment to call home..
