RUTH SHRIMAN HOUSE, at 4040 North Sheridan Road, is Interfaith Housing's newest development, opened in February 1999 This new construction of 83 apartments serves senior citizens whose access to affordable housing was jeopardized by gentrification in the Lakeview and Uptown communities on the north side of Chicago. Interfaith Housing's chief neighborhood partner, the Jane Addams Senior Caucus, mobilized local seniors to advance this project (they even enrolled in architecture classes at the University of Illinois in order to work more closely with the building's architect). The Senior Caucus has moved its offices and senior advocacy programs into the building.
